AIR FREIGHT

FROM YOUR MOST DELICATE SHIPMENTS TO CONTROLLED TEMPERATURE SHIPMENTS

The principal task carried out by a freight forwarder specialized in perishable cargo is the proper treatment of the cargo. Transporting temperature sensitive products by air can be risky due to the large number of stopping points along the route that can threaten the ability to maintain a fixed temperature. Loading times at the source, wait times during loading on the track, which can be affected by unpredictable weather conditions, wait times in storage (where temperatures can range from -18ºC to + 20ºC), and wait times in the warehouse are all examples of the strong external factors that impact the product.

It is very important to plan by calculating the flight time, the wait times in transshipment, the cut-off times before each flight, the time needed for dispatch, etc.

INSULATED PACKAGING

There are many different packaging solutions with insulation included such as cardboard boxes with expanded polystyrene or with aluminum sheets. There are many different sizes, and these are usually suitable for direct flights when combined with some refrigerant material.

REFRIGERANT MATERIAL FOR AIR FREIGHT

Refrigerant material, also known as dry ice, is the solid form of carbon dioxide (CO2). Although dry ice does not leave any residue, it is considered a dangerous material when it sublimates. This leads to higher freight rates and, what’s more, only some aircrafts are prepared to carry it.

CHILLED AND FROZEN AIR CARGO FOR FOOD

Air cargo is the best option for transporting perishable products because of the short life span of the products and because of the lack of alternative refrigerated and frozen maritime groupage.
